CHAPTER 3 ...WHO'S GOT AAA
"Let me get the cell phone. Oh great we're not in range."
"There's a payphone on the other side of the parking lot, and there's a gas station over there."
Miracle of miracles we dig up change. The girls run over and start dialing, and true to form not one person any of us know is home.... well it is a Saturday night!
And of course the gas station is closed up tight.
"Ok what are we going to do..."
"Well I'd say leaving it here is not an option, and its gonna cost a ton to get it transported home. See if there's a part store still open around here, if we can get u-joints I'll run home get some tools, jacks and maybe fix it tonight. If we can get the driveshaft out I can take it home press the new bearings in....course it'll be at least a couple of hours ...unless I hurry...never mind."
"There's a part store about 5 miles down, they're open til 8:00,"
"OK lets go for it. Back the car up with both back wheels onto the lip of the parking lot. Cool who needs a jack. Ok put on the emergency brake. Awright lets see what we got for tools."
What a fun time loosening 3/8 bolts with a 7/16 open end and a screw driver.
We just drove 20 miles on the highway and everything under the car could be used as a cigarette lighter about now. The mufflers clear the drive shaft by about an inch on either side. But in the end we got the driveshaft out.
"OK wrap it up in the blanket and lets get to the store."
