CHAPTER 2 ...KABOOM


I took the lead only because I had a slightly better idea as to where we were heading. Right at the exit to Rte 9 which is a divided 2 lane highway up here in the northeast I see Cody flash his lights. Oh great The carburetor must have fallen apart. We pull into a parking lot and he drives up behind us.
"It just banged, felt like a hugh backfire or something."
We pop the hood, just a little antifreeze on the ground, but we topped it off before we left so not a big deal. Everything else looks clean and mean.
" I bet a little piece of crud must have dislodged in the fuel bowl and clogged a jet or something."
"Yeah that makes sense, it did it when I jumped on it. But wow it was like the whole engine was out of balance."
"Seems smooth enough now."
"Let me rev it up a few times, yeah she's cool now"
"Ok lets get outta here!"
We pull out of the parking lot. First, second, third, fourth..... oh oh where's Cody.... I slow it down and pull into the first parking lot we come to ...and wait.... and wait some more...and a little more......this isn't good.
Ok lets see I can go down the road a couple of miles to the next exit and turn around and drive back a couple of miles and turn around and hopefully we'll run into each other provided neither one of us gets lost ...or...It is a 396 and the trafffic isn't that heavy and its only about 100 feet between parking lots.....Wahhhhhhhh....screech Wahhhhhh..... screech ............... three lots later. That wasn't so bad....who says you can't turn left out of these parking lots.
" What happened?" "I dunno, somethings way out of balance in the driveline, the engine ,transmission, rearend."
"Got a flashlight or any tools?"
"I got a flashlight but the batteries are weak, and I haven't got much for tools how 'bout you?"
"I got polishing rags, wax, chrome cleaner, Armor All and a blanket for picnics.... what else would I need?"
"OK let me see, I've got a couple of old wrenches and a screwdriver...boy are we prepared!!"
"Alright move it slowly and let me look at it. I see it, It looks like it blew a U-joint apart."
